New job call at Charles University in Prague looking for a Taiwan Studies specialist:

Department of Sinology

Job title: academic staff member – assistant professor

Field of study: East Asian History with focus on Taiwan

Salary grade: AP2 (around 60 000,- and more)

Time commitment: 1,0 (40 hours per week)

Job Description:

  • teaching of core and elective seminars in undergraduate and graduate programs of Asian (Chinese) Studies and Global History, including supervision of graduate student theses

  • organization of lectures by visitng professors and international seminars (one event per semester)

  • promotion of the Global Taiwan program in Czech academia and for interested general public

  • 1 year contract with the possibility of extension for 3 years

Requirements:

  • PhD received at least within the last two years in a relevant field (Asian/Taiwan/Chinese history, global history, Taiwan politics and international relations, cross-strait relations etc. )

  • fluency in written and spoken English (min. level C1)

  • working knowledge of Chinese as research language; knowledge of other relevant Asian languages is welcome.

  • prior teaching experience is welcome


Expected start date: Oct 1, 2024

  • the candidate’s academic career development plan expecting the candidate to commence the habilitation procedure (procedure for the granting of associate professorship) no later than nine years after the expected beginning of employment
